One cycling experience that I had many years ago…

As a teenager, I was just getting into cycling…, and joined a local cycling club (Rapid Wheelmen) from my hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

There was an older cyclist that was always riding 100-mile centuries, which impressed me.

He told me that he didn’t really get into cycling, until after his wife passed away (when he was 70).

At the time that our conversation took place, this gentleman had just turned 100 years old…, but you never would have guessed it, by his regular century rides.

That’s my cycling inspiration!

6 years ago I was on a week-long 326 mile bike tour. On the first day, I met a gentleman who was moving at a very good pace. As the week moved on, I learned that he was 82 years old. He told many stories of being a lifelong cyclist. That truly is something that motivated me to finish that tour and give him the utmost respect.

I agree with all the observations.

Encouraging for people like me who are definitely intimidated by the long distance, high tech cyclists! Thanks

Know that you are the more typical cyclist.

Thanks for the reassurance! It is hard to see it when everyone around me has the gear, the talk and just seems to know what they are doing on a whole different level :)

Definitely a number of things on your list I can relate to 🙂
